I just joined, and am anxious to receive as much info from adoptive parents as possible. My husband and I have been discussing adoption, and have NO IDEA where to start. I'm not sure that we can even afford the process, but we are willing to do what we can. We would appreciate any advice and/or info on a starting point.

Meshell- I, too, am new to this forum and site. My dh and I are also beginning the adoption process. I have noticed that there does not seem to be much "action" on this forum. However, I am willing to be your "buddy" while we go through this process.
I am getting ready to call the Home Study lady and get started...I am also going through the whole "can we afford this?"...My dh is worried that we will get started and then not have enough money to follow through.
I don't know if I want to spend an extra $2300 on a consultant, just hire an attorney, how to find an agency on my own, etc. Maybe together we can get through this journey and help each other along the way.
(I'm in FL)
Hope to hear from you...maybe we'll be able to start something here! :)

Hi!
I am lookin for a new buddy.
I am a parent through embryo adoption however I am also new here and looking into regular adoption "again"
I went this route many years ago and it was more heartache than I wanted at the time because I would wait and the birth mother would always change her mind, it was a terrible expereince. Also, I wanted to become a parent before I turned:banana: 45
A little about me: I am single. Found an agency about 2 years ago and signed. They found left over frozen embryos for me and I was pregnant with the adopted embryos/babies within 9 months. Gave birth to a wonderful healthy baby girl. Expereincing pregnancy, birth and having my name on the birth certificate was wonderful however, now I can't carry a child so I have to turn to other options which has not been easy for someone single. I am looking for a buddy so e-mail me at arhlat@epix.net (sometimes faster for me) I am also looking into adoption again. I was told 40,000 to adopt is this true?
Welcome all. There is a lot more traffic on the General Adoptive Parent Info Board. We adopted domestically about 3 years ago. I just started contacting agencies and asking for info-all of them will send you an info pack for free. Most have there own set of rules too (can't adopt if single, not married x # of years etc.)
On the right hand of the adoption.com page there is a link for local adoption. There you can find adoption laws etc for your state. Here in CO you have to use an agency. We went through a fairly expensive, high profile agency and spent about $27,000. Our wait was only 11 1/2 months, signing with the agency until we brought DD home. I know you can certainly spend a lot less but your wait time might be greater.
Feel free to contact me with any questions.
