 Hi, everyone! I am hoping to start a forum for all of us who are just beginning this journey. I think that if we are able to share our stories, thoughts, ideas, questions, concerns, etc., then we can help support each other. We don't all have the benefit of having a group of people in our personal world that has been through this experience, or who will understand what we are going through. I was just hoping for a place to come to talk with others who are beginning this very exciting journey to your forever family! Will you join me? :flower:

Well, I see that there have been some "peekers" but no "posters"...Maybe this will help. :)
My dh and I have been discussing which route to go (adoption through foster care, hire adoption consultant, hire an attorney...the list goes on...)and after careful consideration, we are going to contact an agency in the area and get some information from them. We hope to begin our home study at the beginning of July. We have been married for 14 years and trying to start our family for 4. After some medical assistance, it didn't take us long to decide to adopt. We are eagerly looking forward to our future and to our family.
I am hoping that the call to the agency really puts this in motion and that we will be mommy and daddy before we know it! I'm trying to stay positive, as I know this experience can be a rollercoaster.
I hope that wherever you are in this journey, that all is going well. :)

Today is the day we go for our first agency meeting. I was doing some more research and feel that they may be a bit more pricey in the beginning than I had hoped for. We are still going to go and check them out and "get our feet wet" so to speak. I realize that we don't have to hire the first agency we meet with.
I did schedule my home study through an independent company. I had met the owner at an adoption/infertility conference that my husband and I attended in May. I feel comfortable with her, plus she is about $1000 cheaper than another place I was checking in to. I know cheaper doesn't always mean better, but feel very good about this choice.

I noticed that you haven't been getting responses here. There is a lot more activity in the General Adoption section, so you might want to try posting there as well. I didn't do an agency adoption - we went through foster care, so I don't have any advice for you getting started. Welcome!
