Hi Everyone,
My husband and I will be starting our MAPP classes in 2 weeks. We have a few questions if you wouldn't mind:
1. What was your experience like with MAPPS? I'm a little put off by the idea of "role playing" and the like and was wondering what the process was like for all of you?
2. The training in our county is 10 weeks, but I had read that some people were able to do it more quickly on the weekends (longer hours). Do you know of anywhere I could find this (we're in Charlotte County)?
3. If you were matched with a younger child (under 5) how long did it take? (we're interested in adopting under 5 any race)
Thanks for your help!

Hi Everyone,

We didn't do any role playing at all here. It was more about the situations you encounter and how to handle them (Abuse, behaviour issues, etc..) and what resources are available and what the home study entails, etc...alot of learning. And they had guest speakers too.

We took the escalated classes for 4 saturdays all day. Have you asked the agency if they offer it?
3. If you were matched with a younger child (under 5) how long did it take? (we're interested in adopting under 5 any race)
Sorry this I can't answer because we became licensed to move our niece here from another state. Hopefully someone here can answer this question for you.
I wish you the best!

See our timeline below. Our son was 4 when we where matched, but turned 5 the next month. I think our wait is pretty average, however I know there are people that have waited much longer.
Thanks Helen and Hunterfamily for the replies. We're excited to get started but just have soooooo many questions on the process (lol).
Hi, we finished our Mapp class back in April. We did do some role playing but it was light and you were not forced to do it, as long as you participate with questions and such.
We were not offered longer weekend classes, just 10 weeks, 1 night a week, it wasn't bad at all, I actually enjoyed getting out of work early on those days.
Our age range is 2-8 and we have been involved in 1 match staffing so far and we were not picked. So we are still looking. Although we do have a race requirement so that will be why this takes longer for DH and I.
I do have some friends from our Mapp class that have already been matched and they did not have a race requirement. so, it can happen fast but it all really just depends on what your requirements are. I think the biggest issue will be age, and whether or not you want an individual child or a sibling group.
