Hi all,
I am helping my brother in his search for his birth parents. I just found one discrepancy. On his amended birth certificate it lists the attending physician as Dr. LeMon Smell but when I did a California dr. search by his license # I found out that his last name is Smith. So now I am just wondering if this was a typo or deliberately done. And if so, how much other info is inaccurate?
My brother was born on July 15, 1970 in San Bernardino, Ca at San Bernardino Community Hospital to a white mother and black father. He was born as Baby Boy Clark and I think his mothers last name is Nelson if I used the Ca Birth index correctly. I am waiting on his Non-ID info. Thanks!

Hmm? I never read it that way. Something to think about. A play on words. I mean when I said possibly a typo I was giving someone the benefit of the doubt but who would amend it in such a way? What personal stake would any of the administrators have in this? The administrators would be the ones to handle the birth certificate. I think this search is going to be alot more difficult than mine was.
On my amended CA birth certificate (from the 50's) the attending doctor's name is handwritten, so it's possible that someone mis-read the doctor's last name on your brother's form or hospital records -- a sloppily written Smith could look like Smell. I would guess it's an innocent mistake.
Good luck to you and your brother in his search. Maybe his non-id will be of some help.
