I got a new foster baby who has VERY dry skin. He's 10 months old...any advice for helping with this?? I lather him up after his bath and in the morning. I'm bathing him every night. Should I be bathing him less often (I don't think this is contributing to his issues- he came to me with REALLY dry skin!).
Thanks for all the advice!
My son is AA also, but his skin is very different. I never had much of an issue with dry skin with him. I am surprised with all the lotion I apply that the new baby's skin is still so dry...I'll try a different lotion and bath him less often.
And, Saj, don't you worry- I'm loving him up like crazy!!! :)

We've found that a humidifier at night helps in this crazy dry cold air too.....
I also like the baby soap with Shea Butter in it.....
good luck!
Our son has atopic dermatitis (form of eczema) and we only bathe him about once a week. He will dig and scratch until he has open wounds. After visiting a dermatologist, we do have a steroid cream to use, but will only use when it is severe, as you aren't supposed to use it long-term. My friend, who has psoriasis, told me to put some oats in panty-hose and drop that in his bath water. I did this over the weekend and it was WONDERFUL. I let it sit in the water, then rubbed it over his body and it really helped.

Thanks for all the suggestions. The Eucerin is working wonders. I'm bathing him less and using a humidifier in his room. His skin is so much better.
I try to bathe H only once a week and slather her with shea butter while she's still damp

Tyler gets very dry skin, especially in winter (we have forced hot air) I tried everything natural under the sun. Now, after his baths I use a blend that I made in a little rubbermaid container of aquaphor and olive oil. It makes his skin shiny and beautiful. I use that after a bath, and I use it daily, after wiping him down with a damp cloth. I've realized that the lotion is really the best at sealing in moisture, not many lotions are that great at creating moisture where there isn't any...so try adding a light layer of water before adding a sealing moisturizer.
Good Luck :)
Irelady10. Congratulations on your new bundle of joy. I work for a dermatology clinic maybe I can help you out. After bathing him while he is still wet apply vaseline or aquaphor to him before you dry him off. Cetaphil also has a great cream that you can buy at any pharmacy or Walmart. Get a couple humidifier and keep make sure you keep on in his room. During the winter is the worst time for dry skin for anyone. I hope this helps you
I believe the native cure for this is cow urine. Trying letting the family dog take a leak on it. Don't let the cat near it, or your bundle of junk might end up burried in cat litter.
They have dry skin, because they are apes. Nasty, little tar babies that will never amount to anything. What? Do you like niggers? Shame, shame on you.

Well, it WAS a peaceful place until all the NlGGERS showed up!
I cannot confirm this this but I have been told that a natural remedy is Ocean Water ( Salt Water ) . If you live near the Ocean you might want to get a few gallons of it at the beach & use it at home to see if it works .

Oh i forgot to mention, don't take your AA to the Beach . No, it isn't because of Sharks . You don't have to worry about that . Sharks think that AA's are Whale Doo-Dee . The reason is because when AA's get into the water they transform into African Rock Fish & immediately sink to the bottom .
