Has anyone used one while staying in Sophia? I know they have quite a few "American" hotel chains there. Holiday Inn, Best Western, Sheraton, Radisson, Hilton. I was wondering if it might be to my benefit since I'm a few months out from travel, to get a rewards card to earn free nights. How many nights do you typically stay in Sophia before moving onto your region? I'm assuming 1 but could be wrong. Just curious. Thanks in advance. Just wondering if these would be worth it or not.
My wife & I are Starwood Gold Members. We have a fair number of points. We used 40,000 points for 4 nights at the Sheraton Sofia Balkan. Very nice hotel and great location. We could have feasibly gotten by with just 2 nights in Sofia, but stayed until Sunday instead of leaving Friday afternoon/evening.
I think if you get the Starwood American Express credit card, you can generally get 20,000 points for signing up.

We stayed in Sofia 1 night on front end and 2 nights on backend of trip. Part of that will depend on how far your orphanage is from Sofia and how your visitation with the orphanage is scheduled. We stayed in apartments in the city center arranged for us by the agency and loved it. The second trip we only went to the orphanage to pick up our child and stayed in Sofia for the whole week. Once again we stayed in an apartment. Loved having the seperate living room area and kitchen. It gave us the opportunity to put kids to bed and we could watch tv or be able to talk and not worry about them going to sleep. It also gave more room for indoor play too. I also loved being so close to shopping, eating and parks without having to take a cab. It wasn't hard to find enough people who spoke some english to order food or buy things. Some establishments require their employees to be bilingual. Sorry I rambled and gave more info than you asked for. You can PM me if you want. Kristen
