I guess I better start reading my mail or something.
My kids are both title IV special needs. They are physically healthy........thank God. They have always been on medicaid.
Today my son went to the rare dr. appointment because of an ear ache. We went to pick up the perscription and had to pay $125.00 for ear drops. (the generic brand)
Then another $65.00 for antibiotics.
I have a call into the case worker, but can anyone enlighten me? He's 10 years old and has always been covered for anything.
I'm in shock.....how can anyone afford that much for ear drops.
I wonder if the pharmacy screwed up? The times I've used the Medicaid insurance for my kids, we pay nothing.
That's odd! I'm not in IN though so wondering if it's different.

After speaking to the folks at Hoosier Health Care, there has been no changes in our coverage and the pharmacy will have to reimburse us.
Don't know what the glitch was.
i know this wasn't the case for you today, but i did find that there were some medications medicaid did not cover. a couple of times i did find myself paying out of pocket for meds for our dd. i'm glad that was NOT the case for you today. :)

Yea guys, wasn't that crappy? My husband was the one to pick up the prescription. He just paid.I don't think I would have left the pharmacy with out finding out the problem. I now have the numbers of the people to call (in the event there is another glitch) attached to their insurance cards.
My husband was sure this was a problem associated with the new universal health care plan. Sigh!
I'm for the plan....he's not.

You can request that the doctor prescribe alternative meds that Hoosier Healthwise will cover. I've had to do that a few times.
Also, just FYI, all those with kids on Hoosier Healthwise are having to pay a co-pay for meds now. Ours is $3 for generic and $5 (or $10?) for name brand.
Here, most prescribed medicines are covered but you always need to check. For example, for bedwetting problems, they will cover impramine (a pill) but will not cover the nose spray medicine for bedwetting as that has not been approved by the FDA. Isn't insurance a great big headache sometimes?! I also received in to mail, a couple of weeks ago from their 6 month check up at the dentist ($406.00), for a bill from one (out of two) fc that I took in December. When I called to clear it up, the lady told me, Oh, it should have been covered, that the COMPUTER is to automatically send in all covered by that insurance. She said she would resubmit it. Always need to be an advocate at all times.
