I am 20 years old and was raped last summer. I have decided to give the baby up for adoption as I do not believe in abortion and I am in no position to keep the baby. I have already found a family willing to adopt but we are unsure as how to go about doing it legally. We would rather not involve lawyers if at all possible, because it costs a lot of money that neither the adoptive parents or I have. If anyone has any advice or knows who I can talk to for free advice it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time.

kris, There is going to be expense involved in order to be legal. There is the legal process - plus the homestudy for the adoptive parents. The best way to go about completing an identified adoption is to contact an attorney and find out what the requirements are in your state. Also, unless your in one of the very few states that auto-terminates the parental rights of a convicted rapist who fathers a child during the act of violence - his rights will also have to be terminated via one of a few legal processes (again, depending on your state). At the very least, it will cost a couple of thousand dollars for the study and the legal process (provided there is no lengthly legal process).
