THAT DOESN'T assume we are divorced or that our children are caught in the middle of divorce?
I guess I could be un-lazy and go to amazon.com but wanting to see if there were any books on single parenting (by choosing???) that were helpful or insightful as to most of our situations? If not maybe we should get together IRL or something and start writing down ideas for a book.

alrighty Parenting,
I'm sold....let's start writing down notes....and cowrite one! :) I'm not saying that people who are divorced don't need the great books out there to help them muddle through parenting that way, I just like to read and get information/resources that pertain to me and right now it's limited.
I did note that Dr. Kevin Leman did try to put in a few pages of single people that adopted in his book "Single parenting that works" and he had some good advice....I just wanted more without the divorce drama.
I just got an email from my agency about these radio/podcasts at Welcome to Creating a Family The March 17th one is all about single parenthood and one of the guests is going to be Mikki Morrissette who wrote a book called Choosing Single Motherhood. Thought some of you might be interested.

God Loves Single Moms: Practical Help for Finding Confidence, Strength, and Hope by Teresa WhitehurstI saw this book in the local parenting magazine today. I think it would be an interesting read especially from a Christian perspective. My experience in real life within my religious community has been positive. However as a single parent when I use to visit some Christian adoption forums, I didn't always feel the love. So it's good to see a that a book of this sort available. Here is the description from Amazon:
Written by a psychologist who's successfully navigated single motherhood herself, this book helps single moms believe they and their families deserve the best life has to offer. Packed with practical tips, smart strategies, and ways to improve the well-being of single moms and their children, this book shows single moms how to improve their leadership and parenting skills. It tackles pressing issues such as self-care, a support network, organizing, finances, discipline, and more. Teresa Whitehurst reminds single moms that they don't need to be overwhelmed and that God loves them, is on their side, and wants to guide and support them every step of the way. While they may get weary, they need never feel alone.
after reading some of the contents of the book (from amazon's little preview) it still looks good, but still has the foundation of coming from the divorce standpoint....
maybe some of us here can compile experiences and our lives to make a book for others that decide to adopt as a single person without the trauma of divorce?
I'm not really kidding about that. Anyways just a thought...

I think it's a great idea, Dannie. Of course, I'd be interested in seeing a book about how to be a single over-40 without the implications of a divorce, too, especially in the Christian bookstores. Far too many assumptions being made about us and our motives from people who haven't been there.

I think it would be doable if we decide to compile our experiences....Lori you have the international experience, Parenting, you and I have the fost/adopt experience in two different states plus you and Lori seem to have the 40+ thing that could be explored.
Well just thinking out loud....I'm still looking for books, but maybe we should think about being ground breaking....especially since all of us have a belief system, it would be good to have something in Christian bookstores (if they'll allow it :) )
