My husband and I are hoping to foster-to-adopt a child or sibling group (up to 3 children) through the SWAN program, ages 6 and up.
We attended information sessions at COBYS in Lancaster, Catholic Charities in Harrisburg, and Diakon in York. I also researched Bethany in Lancaster. We chose Diakon late last year and are now questioning that decision.
I am seeking information about your knowledge or experiences with any adoption agencies in the Central PA area, especially Diakon. Please contact me by a personal message or by an e-mail sent to my personal account.
We plan on attending the upcoming support group meetings at Jewish Family Services in Harrisburg.
THANK YOU. Your help and advice is much appreciated.
Just checking in to see what you or anyone on this forum can share with me about the SWAN program? Any personal experiences with various agencies? We are considering going working with the SWAN program but we are unsure if we should work with a private agency (which one??) or the county? Any thoughts? Please PM me. Thanks!

I started the process by contact SWAN and receiving a list of agencies in my area. I contacted each one, talked with a rep at each one, attended several informational meetings and then selected an agency.
I went with Diakon in Mechanicsburg. We've had a great experience. Please feel free to PM me with any specific questions.
Hi Daisies. Touching base on your status. Any placements? How's your experience going? We are newly on the waiting list for a placement (0-8 years, boy, girl, sibling of 2, any race/ethnicty) in PA. Not sure what to expect for a wait time.

Our agency mailed our photo brief to 10 surrounding counties. We will eventually be registered with the Pennsylvania Adoption Exchange, although this may take awhile given the holidays. I was told not to expect much before mid-January with the holidays and vacations. There's a matching event in Harrisburg in January we are considering attending. I'm not sure if it's worth it. They children are out of our age range, but it might be a good way to meet case workers and get our names / faces out there. Has anyone done any matching events? I don't know how I feel about them.
I am not going to the event. it is a work day. Our Worker said she would bring flyers. Did you think of going out of state? We decided that we would in a couple months and pay for the HS if PA seems too slow.
Our worker mailed out our flyers after I reminded her. I sent them out to PA via mail to 40 some counties. I wish there were email addresses.
