and this thread could get kind of heated.....but i remember not allowing starting new threads to talk about other threads in the past. so can i close it and direct them back to the original thread (wherever that may be?)?

is this from OUR site? Then no, we can't allow that. If she wants to talk about the issue of snacks vs no snacks, fine, but as you say, we'd prefer they don't copy a post to start a new convo.
Since the discussion has taken off though, let's delete out the text she copied and paraphrase, kwim? Then pm her and let her know that next time she needs to not copy but take a discussion IDEA out of it instead.

if i delete out what she copied....there is no original post. yes it is from our site.....there was a thread a few days back about snacks.

Gotcha.
I just looked and she's got 2 threads on the same topic basically. So just delete this one and tell her it's not necessary to have 2 same topics like that (it's not a cross post in another forum) and that if she wants to discuss someone's post, she should do it on the thread it's on.
