I admit all I know about foster care I have learned from here so my knowledge is (very) limited but somehow his story just seems off. And his views sure are not winning him any friends. (Such as calling all children scociopaths and the older foster child retarded.)
Just wondering from those more knowledgable if he is just a jerk fostering in a particuarly bad county or troll potential?

the only thing that set of my radar was this:
our FC don't have an attorney
bc i'm pretty sure all fc have an atty....but it could just be that he does not know about it. the last kid i adopted....i never even heard the attys name....but i am certain he would have had to have one.
the rest of the story sounds crazy....but i know some families who had some pretty crazy crap happen to them. as far as the scociopaths and retarded comment....some people just aren't great with sensitive vocabulary choices. he may be a troll.....but i could totally see this being real.....sadly. :(

Ok. It was just bugging me and I decided it was better to check it out with more knowledgable people and be wrong than to just ignore it.
I definetly have read many crazy foster care stories here. There is just something about him. But I have been known to be overly suspicious on occasion. :)

What strikes me as off is the way he talks about the kids. Just the tone. If you take classes to be a foster parent and you see a lot of things, this isnt the type of behavior that a person would say "sociopath" for. Plus, most foster parents tend to have more empathy and they do not give home phone out.

we gave out our home phone number. we were not told not to and didn't think it would be a problem. so we really were that dumb....we ended up having to have it changed and did not make that mistake again! but we learned the hard way!

And I guess that is why I was asking. (What Crick said first.) He doesn't 'sound' like the other foster parents here. Even the throughly feed up with the system ones.

really. our kids were 8 and 9....their mom had died, their dad was in jail and so they only had contact with aunts, cousins, and a sister....we honestly didn't think it would be a big deal that those people contact the kids. we had caller id and thought it would be no big deal. we didn't count on their family being crazy or manipulative and hurtful towards the kids. it was our first placement. we were young and naive.

I really start to wonder if it's a troll when people give solid advice and the responses back is the equivalent to BTDT and it didn't work. It's like he's asking for a miracle or an answer that no one can give him. Sometimes you ahve to fight with CPS to get what you deserve for your kids.
The big flag for me is that the Mom hit the kids in his home. Uh, aren't you a mandated reporter. Why didn't you call the cops when she did that? Or that she threatens them over the phone.KWIM?

As a foster parent for 8+ years I can tell you that I think this guy is absolutely 100% full of crap.
The mom and dad (who are divorced) both separately showed up at our house the very next day wanting to see their kids.
The parents would have had to follow them home from the dhs office, or have the cw tell them right off the bat where the foster family lived in order to do this.
I actually saw him walking to his AA meeting the other day and stopped to give him a ride.
Against DHS rules.
The local office had them visiting us at our house.
Never, ever suggested, much less done by DHS.

If you call your phone company and ask who just called you, even if its private they will tell you who it was.

Kids in general are sociopaths.
Guess he figures that his bio kids are sociopaths too, huh?

I know that the thread's been closed and the user banned...
...but we do need to remember that each state and even each county has different rules/guidelines for foster care. Also, in down economic times - states and counties are asking FP's to take over things that they've never been required to do before...
DHS asked us on countless occasions to facilitate and oversee visits. It was up to us to do them in our home or not. IL is a full ID state - parents knew where the kids were the minute they were placed (full names, address and phone number).
I don't doubt this guy is full of crap - but some of what he's reported totally can happen...
I took offense to his use of retarded and the like. I felt he came for entertainment and maybe had just enough exposure to FC to know a little about what it takes...maybe his parents are FP's or something?

His terminology was definitely out there. I guess he git his license out of a Cracker Jacks box. How could he possibly advocate for those kids if he wasn't interested in using the correct terms about their problems. They weren't sociopaths my any means, just completely unschooled in anything. It sounded like an episode of the X Files.
