Hi,
Has anyone had success confirming the county in NY where a person's adoption was finalized?
I called two surrogates courts and, much to my surprise, the clerks were willing to check the records and either confirm or deny whether the child's adoption was finalized in that county.
When I called other counties, however, the clerks said that they absolutely could NOT do that, because adoption records are sealed.
I'm not asking them to give me any info about the adoption - just to confirm where it was finalized.
Has anyone else been through this? If so, what happened?
Thanks for your responses.
Lee
The name of the county where my adoption was finalized was on the non-ID I received from the agency and NYS. Have you gotten non-ID from the NYS Adoption Reunion Registry?

I got my non ID back and it said that My Mother contacted the DSS a few weeks after I was born but it did not say which county. If I was adopted in Chautauqua county NY through the DSS does that also mean that I was born in that county? Any info would be greatly appreciated and thanks so much
Not necessarily, it usually means that it is the county your adoption was finalized in. Did your A parents give you the adoption summery? If two counties are listed that means you came from one and were adopted in the other. Hope this helps!
