Hi all!
We have already started the adoption process and had out interview with DSS. All has gone smoothly and there's no doubt we will be getting a great report from her. Now we need to file the petition for termination. BIO' whereabouts are unknown. Haven't seen or heard from him in 4 years. I'm a little confused by exactly what I have to do in order to find him.
I hate to hire a lawyer just to help me with that portion. Do I do an internet search and call around to ask if he lives there? Or is there more to it? He lives out of state. Has never resided in LA county. I know the name of his mother and 2 friends but have no idea where they live either. My only way to find them would be internet searches, honestly. Once I get the info do I have to send letters? What kind of letters? Or can I just call and confirm whether or not he lives there? If I do get a confirmed address then I hire someone to serve him??
If anyone has any idea how this works PLEASE HELP!
Thanks
JD

Hello,
When I adopted my daughter I was required to send registered letters to all known last addresses. In addition, we placed ads in the classified sections of last known address local newspapers for a period of two weeks. The ads included the request for adoption and the name of the parties involved also contact information. Plus, we were reuired to complete a search for the parent and also send letters to those addresses as well as place ads. Every base was covered.
I would contact the department of Children and Families in or area for more information.

Hi, Im in the process of adopting my step daughter. In my county it is required to terminate rights before any adoption process including css visitation. I am not in Stanislaus County, however their self help site has been the most help ive found online and for pro per step parent adoptions... Follow the link and steps and hope it helps.
