Are there any families out there that are Navy and have been through the adoption process? I would love any insight you might have!
Thanks!!

Not Navy :) but we were a Coast Guard family (recently retired - YAY!!) , and DH was on a ship when we adopted the first time -
don't know exactly what you need - but if I can help, would be happy too!

I guess I am mostly looking for what programs and options the Navy gives couples with adoptions. I have contacted my base and they don't offer anything! Lots of things for BP's though. Looking to learn more and see what hurdles military families had to jump through, issues that arrised. Anything really! My area (as far as military goes) hasen't really been any help. (I have spoken to many people on the base and found squat)
Thanks!!
I'm an Air Force wife, but the process is pretty much the same. You will not get any help or support, be it legal or emotional from the base. There is the $2000 adoption reimbursement program that DFAS handles. As well as the 21 day leave following an adoption. My husband was deployed when we started our homestudy but everything turned out perfectly.

Oh, and if you chose to work with an agency, be sure to ask right away if they work with military couples. Many local agencies did not. Since I knew we could pcs at any point, I made sure we worked with a large, national agency that could place children in most states in the US.
Best wishes!
Hi. My husband is Navy and we are starting the adoption process. From what I've found there isn't a lot of extra support from the Navy in the adoption process, but that's about the same with every other career. I do know that Tricare will go in effect for the child right away. I also know about the 2,000 dollars, which is nice. If you find out any more, please pass it along. I know that we aren't suppose to specially discuss adoption agencies, lawyers and so on, but I'm leaning towards a larger group to work with, because we do move so often. Actually we are moving in about two months from Florida (where the adoptive laws are easier) to Virginia. Good luck.
