Hello All,
Hubby and I are pretty much set on adopting from the china special needs program, however, the phillipines was an option my agency mentioned today as it is a good fit for my age (46 soon to be 47) and the age of child desired (under 3 as our son is 3.5) I am looking at the information for phillipine adoptions from my agency and the wait for referral is about 18-24 months and travel 3-4 months later. Is this currently the timeline? Has anyone adopted recently who can fill me in on their experience?
Thanks a bunch,
zinnia

Hi Zinna, I brought my daughter home from the Philippines Dec 2007. She was 16 months old. The Philippines adopts out internationally about 500 children a year. They have an extensive dossier requirement and are very transparent non corrupt program. They have children from 10 months to 16 year old, sibling groups and special needs. You are hitting the age limit to adopt a child under 3. At this time they are not accepting applications for children 2 and under due to a large number of approved applicants. This is by far the most sought after age group. They are accepting applications for children 3 and over. For Children in the 3 to 4 year age range you will most likely have a 24 month wait...for 4 to 6 years 18 to 24.Children older than 6 would be much quicker. They are very ethical and do not want people waiting on a list more than 2 years so that is why they try and control the number of accepted applications. They provide as much history and medical information as they can get, life books ect. The children are cared for in orphanages and foster care. All adoptions are processed through a central authority. Their web site is Inter-Country Adoption Board (ICAB) - Home We had a wonderful experience and loved the country and the people we met.We hit a back log when we applied and waited 28 months for our daughters referral. All the bestLaurie mom to Angel and Leland
We are waiting to travel to get our daughter from the Philippines in 4-6 months
Something else that you need to be aware of is that you can not specify what gender you want when adopting from the Philippines. Unless of course you find a child on the Special Home Find(SHF) list of course.
They also only accept Christian couples given that the Philippines is the only christian country in Asia.
