How long?

See the timeline in my signature for some key dates. I think I remember you saying you had a 1 yr old. I don't know if it's an agency requirement or a country requirement, but we were told they prefer there to be 2 years between the current youngest child in your family and the child to be adopted. That is why we started when we did--a couple months before our youngest DS turned 2. There are 26 months between our DS and our new DD.Then again I have seen them break this rule. So who knows. Just something to be aware of.

I started out about the same time as LJR with the pre-app and formal app, but things proceeded slower for us after that. Our home study got sent in October 2010 and we just recieved our referal. Hoping to travel by the end of the summer. Good luck.

So, for both of you it was about a year/will be about a year or LESS? I can't remember if I mentioned this, but I found an agency in our state, but they said the waiting time could be 13-17 months, which makes me nervous about getting it done before Korea closes their doors on adoption. Did your agencies that you used estimate right on the timeline for your adoptions? Thanks for that, LJR. My youngest is 20 months right now. Do you think that's close enough to 2 to start a homestudy now or should I wait?

For LJR it was a year from the formal application until she was home with Delaney. Jan 2010 - Jan 2011 I filed my formal application at the same time as LJR and received my referal about 2 weeks ago. I'm hoping to travel in August September. So for me it'll be more like 20 months. Jan 2010 - Sep 2011 In the end I think the 20 month timeline matches up pretty well with the estimates we were given at the start. If all had gone perfectly we probably could have shaved a month or two off.

Agencies differ about how much time. We started looking into adoption when our 3rd was not yet born. We wanted to the 3/4 to be close in age. We were told we could not proceed until he was born. OF course then we had our hands full :) we submitted our first app when our youngest was 14 mo. We were asked to review a waiting child who was only 6 mo younger. We decided to say no as the baby seemed much larger and they would be in the same grade. Plus we were worried about 2 babies so close in age. Our accepted referral and our youngest will be 19 mo apart. We were hoping for 15-18 mo apart so we are so thrilled. Our wait was a little longer than expected. We were quoted 4-6 mo wait but it was 10 mo, though I noticed that the difference in wait was months longer for us .. as those who had hstk 4-6 weeks b4 us have already traveled and we just recently got a referral. however we had prefer girl so that is probably the reason
