Actually, I think it's FE2002 who needs a time out. May I be judgemental about people who are judgmental... please??? I've spent much of my ordained ministry in the rural mountains or PA where the population is 99.5% caucasian. Many people there have had no experience (other than on TV) with people whose skin color is different from their own. They have all done very well dealing with my various "brown" grandchildren, but it wouldn't surprise me to hear them say inappropriate things.
Funny how the ones with the most "politically correct" and loudest opinions on this are the ones totally missing your point.
Interesting...
i feel like i could write a post that said i single handedly saved the world from alien invasion today, and someone would be disappointed in me for not allowing the aliens a place to live. lol. whatever.
yeah kathy...that sounds like where i live. more diversity is moving in....but diversity is VERY new here.
Well Aliens are our friends!!! Gosh!;) My children would hunt you down!;) LOL!
Happy Friday and may the world be more gracious today!

That just has NO place in my home - intolerance of aliens!:p It's timely funny for me because earlier in the week, one of our family dinner discussions was about aliens. The kids saw a Discovery show last week I think about life in space and theories about alien life etc. They are convinced there are aliens out there now and had all these interesting and hilarious opinions.
Yay for your start of summer! Ours gets out next week. I'm not quite ready...lol!
i am seriously about to get banned bc of FE2002whatever on this thread. i swear to god i am going to ban her just for fun. i know my limits...this is it...i am stepping away. i'll be back later.
I posted. If FE continues, just ban her from the thread. I cannot do this because I do not have this awesome super power. So mods...here's your chance to be more powerful than me! LOL!

Ooooooh oooooh ooooooh! Pick me! Pick me! (Jumping up and down with my hand in the air!) I'll ban her! ;)
I deleted Sbag's post because I'm tired of him saying things like "I was waiting for the fire to die down but now I better say my piece before it gets locked" and ALL his post serves to do is FLAME THE FIRE.
It's not the first time he's done it and I'm just not having it on there after I very clearly said "Be nice or shut it":)
I'm so tired of rude people...and they seem to be growing in numbers EVERYWHERE. sigh.
I saw his post and was wondering about that....
This whole time watching the thread I just wanna :grr: over people not being able to keep their traps shut. The thread was CLEARLY designed to be about a success, not a huge debate over what was right or wrong.
Some people.....ugh!
Poor, poor people. They can't help themselves. They must stir the pot so others can experience their misery too.
I see stupid people again!

i can't even formulate a coherent sentence to accurately describe how i feel about that thread. but as always...reading the stupid comments just reminds me that i also need to be more patient and understanding with people here. so i guess there is always an upside to stupidity. ;)
I really do try to be patient and understanding with people because I don't know their life story. So when you posted the story, I'm thinking, wow what a cool story. You connected to a person in a very special way. Personal connections can be so rare with people you don't know.
On the other hand, I'm appalled at the responses by people who are criticizing you for even letting him do his job or that you actually talked to him. Were his comments racist? Yes, but through ignorance, not malicious intent. He doesn't know anything else. The posters do know different, but choose to be otherwise. A big difference between the two.
In sociology, there is a term used for people like this. It's called being ethnocentric. You only know your life and no one else's. You know nothing about other cultures, ways of life, experiences, etc. So many people live in this ethnocentric bubble, it's frightening.
Fear is based on lack of knowledge of the unknown. They would fear this repairman rather than opening their lives to him to show him a different world. Luckily you opened that door and perhaps open the door to his understanding of a different aspect of the bigger picture. Who knows what that encounter has done for him.
I think what we see in the responses is that ethnocentric view that keeps doors closed and people in the dark. Sad really.
