We are in passaic county and are very excited to have just started the foster care process. Can someone tell me what the rules are for bedrooms? I heard DYFS was ok with same sex sharing rooms. Is this true? I know YCS makes each child have their own room. My fiancee and I are so excited to get started we just moved into a 3 bedroom house out of our 1 bedroom apartment so that we could become foster parents. We are hoping to take a sibling group of older children but don't know if only having two extra bedrooms will be a problem.
Same sex children - regardless of their age - are permitted to share a bedroom. The number per room depends on the square footage. I think they require 50 sq feet per child. I know I was shocked when they said I could fit four kids in one of my bedrooms (not that I ever would!) as long as they were the same sex. You need a bed and chest of drawers per child.
Children under 5 can share rooms even if opposite sex.
Children under 2 can sleep in the foster parent's bedroom and don't require their "own" room.
Good luck with your foster care journey!! what do you mean by "older" siblings? I'm sure you will be filled to capacity very soon!! I hope you love it - the kids sure need people like you - especially the older kids!!

We are happy to take any child who needs us. We would love a sibling group over 5 though, because I heard they are harder to place.
DYFS has a great need for siblings and older child placements. I imagine your wait will not be long (once you get through the training and licensing process!).
Good luck!! And, welcome to the forum- its awesome.
