Hi Everyone! I am new to the process and I have a questions about how Missouri checks for financial security. Does anyone know if they do income verification, credit checks, or both? We have only gotten as far as putting in our call to a CW and our call has not been returned yet. We are scared we won't be approved to foster because of my credit (identity was stolen). We do have debt, but easily pay our bills each month so just an income verification does not worry us at all.

I'm not in Missouri, so I can't answer your question specifically. I can tell you, though, that I was freaked out over this issue when I was going through licensing. My credit score took a big hit when I closed a bunch of credit cards to prevent the interest rates from being hiked up. It ended up being no big deal! The agency just required an income verification and a financial statement. The income verification was done via a form that I turned into my employer. The financial statement was just a form that I filled out listing my income and expenses. No one ever verified the information on the form. Only necessary expenses (i.e. food, rent, credit cards) were on the form, not optional ones (i.e., internet, cable TV). so I ended up looking even better off financially than I actually am.
I wasted alot of time worrying about something that ended up being a non-issue. Hopefully, someone here can give you information more specific to Missouri, but I would bet you have nothing to worry about.
Good luck!
