My husband and I really want to adopt again. Preferably a little girl. I feel a very strong pull to China...special needs. The problem is I don't know where to start.
I saw a little girl who I can not get out of my mind. She was listed on StarFish but they are obviously not an agency. Is there a way to find out if this child is with an agency and IF so does China allow you to request a certain child?
Thanks!
China has a very well-developed Waiting Child program, where you can select a child who has special needs or is of school age and healthy.
If you participate in the program, and see a child you feel equipped to parent on a list prepared by the Chinese government, you work with your agency to request preapproval from the CCAA. Then, if preapproval is granted, you file the normal dossier, which is reviewed in an expedited fashion. Once your dossier is reviewed, as long as there are no contradiction to what the preapproval application showed, you will be accepted as parents and will then get permission to travel and adopt your child. In most cases, you can bring the child home within a year.
Contact an agency that participates in China's Waiting Child program (not all do) to learn details about how to access the Waiting Child lists.

Yes, you can request a certain child that you are interested in. Contact any agency that works with China adoption (I recommend my agency, Madison Adoption Associates). Give them the child's Chinese name, DOB, and SN, and they can tell you if the child is still available for adoption!!! You can proceed from there with the guidance of your agency.

Hannah, I would imagine it will look like a UN conference in your house after adopting the little Chinese girl.
