We are starting the adoption process of homestudy soon and I had a question specifically about moving with the military. We will be stationed here in WI for our initial hs, but I saw on another part of these forums where someone mentioned having to get a new homestudy done once a year? or having it updated? How is that handled once you've adopted the child and you've been PCSed to another state? Do you have to repay the fees each year to have a new hs done?

We have adopted once and are in the process of our second adoption. Once your home study is done it has to be updated once a year if you do not complete an adoption within the first year and are planning to continue trying to adopt. An update is basically just an interview with your social worker to make sure nothing has changed and you will update back ground checks and medicals. Once you complete an adoption you will have a set number of post placement interviews to complete. After that set number is done you will not need to keep your home study current unless you plan to adopt again. If you adopt in WI and then transfer to another state before you post placment visits are done you will have to hire a social worker in the new state to do them. If you transfer from WI before you adopt a child then once you are in the new state you will have to get a home study update with new back ground checks, medicals and updated address and home info. Hope that helps. PM me if you have other ?s/
