Interesting who makes decisions, and fact check or not our history books. Touches mainly on American history in general, but I also pulled a portion mentioning Blacks place in history.

Einolf said many of the other books neglect key elements, such as the role of African Americans in 19th-century Virginia.
"Making a mistake is one thing. Ignoring the role that African Americans played in the state is almost as bad," Einolf said.
Historian Mary Miley Theobald, a former Virginia Commonwealth University professor, reviewed "Our America" and concluded that it was "just too shocking for words."
"Any literate person could have opened that book and immediately found a mistake," she said.
Theobald's list of errors spanned 10 pages, including inaccurate claims that men in Colonial Virginia commonly wore full suits of armor and that no Americans survived the Battle of the Alamo. Most historians say that some survived.
NickChris,
The link takes you to a great repository of actual documents from each century (will open in the 1800's but you can choose any century). It takes a bit to get used to the old speech but I find it worth the time to read.

Black History month sneaked up on me this year... It had been starting in January and running through March. What happened this year? LOL!
Here's the first thing of interest to come up. I agree with some of the comments. Why do they always dress black models in tribal/ethnic/speakeasy themed clothing and not the classic or edgey...

Not sure, I forgot to watch Black in history the 70s last week. I wanted to ask if you found the listings of the old movies..
Is this the same where the Black models wore all of the animal prints on the runway? Guess its pushing that dangerous, exotic look. *roll eyes*

This was Italian Vogue's February 2011 Black Allure spread to showcase black models. Remember a few years ago they had a Legends of Black Modeling edition of Italian Vogue? That edition sold out in record time. Apparently this is the new crop of black models on the scene. I don't recognize any of them but I don't buy fashion magazines like I used to.
I'll have to look for the movie and program listing for this year and post when I find them.
I do not recognize any of these featured models, It has been a while checking out Vogue.. and it shows. lol :-D
Okay Niecy is a bit loud, the 80s/90s was the thing. I loved seeing Taimak (The Last Dragon)again.. oh boy was I enamored with him. :woohoo:

Carmen Jones has already run too. I didn't watch it because I didn't have time to watch the whole thing.

Turner Classic Movies (TCM)

Sounder (1972)
Black sharecroppers during the Depression fight to get their children a decent education. Cast: Paul Winfield, Cicely Tyson, Kevin Hooks. Dir: Martin Ritt. C-105 mins, TV-PG, CC, Letterbox Format
Guess Who's Coming to Dinner, Glory and Ali have already run this month on TCM. SHAKA ZULU has already run on Centric. I have never watched the entire Shaka Zulu miniseries. An ex-boyfriend used to recite scenes from that movie. It was hilarious.
I think the Color Purple has already run too. I've got so many friends who steal lines from that movie.
I'll see what else I can dig up.
I just checked and it doesn't appear they are going to run the African American Lives docs with Henry Louis Gates. I really enjoyed those... Hopefully it will get added to the sked.
The Color Purple is definitely the most quoted movie I know!
Thanks! I was also reading the brief bios regarding Fredi Washington , Ethel Waters etc;
The Color Purple: One of dh's favorite movies. Unquote There is a God.... pass them potatoes. :thankyou:
