My son is AA and is 7 months old. His birthmom told us we didn't have to worry about doing anything special with his hair until he is a year but I noticed his hair is getting dryer than it was when he was a newborn. I give him a bath every 2-3 days and use just regular baby shampoo each time.
I would love some advice on products, bathing/hair care regimens I should be following, etc. Unfortunately, I don't have anyone I can ask personally and I'm afraid I'm doing everything wrong! Thanks in advance for any help.
I would gently wash their hair with a baby shampoo once or twice a week and comb it out while wet. I would daily or ever other day spray their hair with a mixture of olive oil and water (about 1/3 oil to 2/3 water) and comb it out. I would use the water and olive oil mixture whenever their hair seemed dry.
Good Luck

I would not shampoo so much for one thing. Even when they are smearing food in their hair a co-wash should get it sufficiently clean and won't dry out the hair. I shampoo my son maybe once a month (maybe) and he has long super tight curls. But I co-wash several times a week. I've never had an AA baby (started with a toddler), but a gentle tear-free conditioner instead of baby shampoo should work fine. Then rub a little olive or coconut oil into the towel dried hair a few times a week to give it a little moisture. Or as aclee suggested, mix with water to spray on.
