I know I haven't been an active part of this board, but I have been a big follower. I have been licensed for 11 months through a private agency, and still have not received any children. So I think I am going to call it quits. If they can't use me in the 11 months I am there, then I guess they don't need foster parents as bad as I thought. I don't know about anyplace else, but the agency I am with seems to let politics over-run compassion and care. I just don't understand. I have a whole bedroom (12X12) dedicated to foster children. Furnished with bunkbeds, dressers, ect. I am a stay at home mom, so I am available anytime. My age ranges are from 0-10. But yet, not even one respite call. I think I would be willing to do county, but my husband just wants to quit. This agency has lied to us too many times, and he just wants to be done with it. Can't say I totally blame him. But I want to just say thank you for posting what you post. Although I have not gotten any children, I have learned a lot. Good luck to everyone.

If you are with an agency, that is why you aren't getting placements. Indiana is trying to phase out the use of agency foster homes in order to cut cost. It costs quite a lot more to place a child with an agency foster home. If you transferred to the county, you will soon find yourself full and busy. If you call your county's DCS and ask to switch, they will eagerly and rapidly switch you over. Granted, you don't get paid as much per day with the county, but you will stay busy. We get paid $25/day vs. $27 and up with an agency. You certainly won't "make" money either way, but it does pay the child's expenses.

I think it would probably depend on your county also. Our county has foster parents that haven't had a single placement in a years time also. There aren't many kids getting put into care here. We have a lot of empty foster homes. I can understand your husband being tired of the politics of it.
I agree with the others. make the switch.and maybe this is a point that has already been considered. but if you arent getting calls for placments ( yet) then you probably dont have alot of contact with the agency. so, what does it hurt to leave yourself open for them when the occasion arises. you are already lisenced. Renewal is easy every year.

I understand your frustration. We are with Marshall county but have been empty for a year with only 2 calls(they went to other families, one due to me leaving the country & the other was placed with a relative) this past year. The last call being 8 months ago. :( It' gets old really quickly. ((hugs))
