I got contacted today by a group that usually assists in adoptions. However they contacted me about an 8 year old boy whose mother wants to have him adopted out. They are in NJ. So basically this group is matching, but after that I would hire my own attorney to do the adoption if we were picked. Anyone ever heard of this before. The mother isn't even concerned about homestudies being completed. She just wants to find the perfect family.
Don't know anything about NJ, but it did occur here in Georgia. I know of one case where the couple had an adopted child from Korea. They decided to divorce and neither one wanted the child. They asked the divorce lawyer to find a "good home" for the little boy (age 3). As it turned out, the wife's attorney adopted the child. Single parents were not allowed to adopt from Korea, but he had already been naturalized, so it was a "domestic" adoption.

I am very interested in this situation. The child is 8 and the only known medical condition is ADHD. My husband is on board with it too. I guess if we are chosen my next step would be to contact an attorney.
Have you ever had contact with this group before now? seems odd . Red flag here... also do not send any money for ANYTHING!
The group is one that many of you have heard of on here. I don't want to give out the name for privacy reasons. Don't worry arubagirl, I will not be sending money for anything. If the situation works out we will be hiring an attorney for the whole process.

I have heard of it, but most of the time it's been a disrupted adoption situation. Often it involves a child with major behavioral or attachment issues. I would move foreward, but with caution. Making sure of the reasons this child is being placed first. I would want to talk with several people who know the child. I have also heard of it in the case of a single parent who is dying, but that is much more rare than the people disrupting because of issues.
shall0927: The moms story is that she was very young (15) when she had him. She then had help. Now she is a single parent and homeless. SHe says she can't provide for him. I am not naive enough to think this is all of the story, but I can see how this would cause some stress in raising a child.
momraine: The only medical condition ive been told about him is adhd. He supposedly is in 2nd grade, reading on a 4th grade level and does great in school. Other than that I do not know much. I am going to try and find out more before we go much further.
