Hi everyone. My wonderful husband has always known he was adopted. He is 41 years old. His parents are both deceased. He was told growing up that he was an "illegal adoption" from a 16 year old girl and that his Dad just "paid off" an attorney to handle both his and his sister (also adopted a year later but not blood related) to do the paperwork. Because he was told it was under the table he was told there is no trail. We now have an 18 month old daughter and his desire to find out where he came from has gotten stronger. He would like to know if he has any medical issues he needs to watch out for. He wonders and wonders about so many things. We have no clue where to begin.
He was born in Atlanta in 1969. We know the hospital. We have his birth certificate, but on that is his adoptive parents names. Can anyone give me an idea where to start for him. He doesn't even know how to check his email so computers are not his thing.
Thank you in advance.

If his birth certificate shows his parents names then there are two possiblilties from back then. 1. The adoption was not illegal per se and there was an adoption petition filed and his birth certificate was changed and the birth certificate he has is called an amended birth certificate. 2. The original birth certificate was filled out with his parents names instead of his mother and possibly father listed. Then it would be an illegal adoption and no adoption petition was put before the courts. Easiest way to find out is to request his "long form "original" birth certificate". If an adoptee requests that they will be denied if it was a legal adoption as it is sealed in Georgia at the time of adoption. If you get it and it has his parents name on it you have the answer. As to how to search. Start with the state and what they offer. The link below details what he can get, do, and who to contact. Search the registry as well but do not include the day because that is changed sometimes and look for details that match. Sign up with ISRR.net. Kind regards,Dickons
