As we are rounding third and about to get this adoption finalized I have a question. The boys we are adopting are classified as a special needs adoption (sibling group, oldest with some developmental issues, both a bit older) and the lawyers are about to being negotiating a per diem. When we first started this journey we never even knew that it was possible to get a per diem once it was finalized! I guess I wonder what to expect. Any experience any of you may have would be helpful. How much could it be? We are curious because we never planned having one and don't know what it *should* be...does that make sense? Any input?
Thanks!
It could be up to 18.75...but typically seems to be less these days.
It also depends on how hard you fight for it. They are really asking for a lot of documentation to support ongoing financial support it seems. It also seems to vary greatly from county to county.
Are they qualified for the IV-E AAP (federal) or the state SAP. If it is federal, then you'll see the money. If it is the state, well there is a long waiting list and no money to fund it.
Good luck!
