Hello everyone, I'm glad I found this forum. My husband and I have been trying to adopt through the state for 6 years, with no success. They never even placed a foster child with us in all this time!
Our money situation has improved, so we are trying to do private adoption and have hired an attorney. We are also applying with Bethany Christian Servives. We are trying for domestic adoption as international seems to be more expensive. I'm not sure they will except us yet though since they go by last years W2s. This year has completely turned around for us in a positive way financially.
Do you have any advice for us as far as how to spread the word? We placed an ad in one of the largest newspapers in the state, but the others we called said they can't run those kinds of ads (?) or were just ridiculously expensive. We are also utilizing facebook as much as we can, and I built us a little website ([url=http://www.readadoption.com]The Reads[/url]) We are also telling absolutely everyone we know.
We already had one person try to scam us out of some money while saying "God put us together". Some people just have no conscience.
Would you mind sharing with me how to spread the word if you know of other ways?

Hi. I don't have much to offer about spreading the word but I do know that Bethany has a sliding scale in the state we live in. We adopted through Bethany and were very happy with them. I don't think I would ever consider placing an ad in a newspaper for that reason (scammers) and some would consider it unethical. I think spreading the word through your Facebook is a great idea. Things seem to spread like wildfire on there. lol Good luck to you!

We went the "word of mouth" route and it worked out beautifully for us! We told our pastor (he told his pastor friends), obgyns, teachers, school counselors, drs, nurses, etc. Anyone that could come in contact with people :) Just so happens my referral came from a daycare director. She had a friend who's grandson was giving his baby up. I know our story is not "normal" because of the quickness and ease, but it does happen!Have faith, be prayerful and try to be patient. We used Bethany and were extremely happy. We were matched very quickly. We turned in our profile book and were matched within a week. We didn't try any of the other options because the process was so time consuming and extremely stressful that using more than one method would have been too much for us. To be honest, I'm not sure how Bethany feels about using more than one method. Bethany has a sliding scale where we live also which helps make it a little bit more affordable.
