My two older siblings are adopted so I have always been very appreciative to both my parents who adopted them, and also towards their birth parents who made the selfless choice to place them with an adoptive family. I am a musical theater songwriter and I decided to write a song from the point of view of a young birthmother reasoning with her boyfriend about what to do with the baby. It is based on the story of my sister's birthparents. I thought this would be a perfect place to share the song! Let me know what you think! ps I'm playing the piano so you can't see me in the video.

Here are the lyrics:
Give Her Up
David, would you mind
stayin' for a while?
You don't have to talk
if you don't want to talk
but pushing this aside
will not make things alright.
I've tested twice
plus lately I'm
not feeling well in the mornings.
It's time now to decide
what happens down the line.
Our baby, our baby's gonna need your love
What if we're too young to be that strong.
So maybe, just maybe as a part of growing up
we should give her life - then, give her up.
Dave, I feel
like lately we've been
slowly drifting apart
which makes me wonder how
you'll be here a year from now.
'Cause baby, our baby needs a mom and dad,
needs a life that we just can't provide.
So maybe, just maybe this is not our time.
Maybe we're not meant to raise this child.
Say we're fine
We're still in control
Hold my hand!
I can't be alone!
Baby, my baby, we make mistakes
So baby, my baby, I'll bear the ache
for both our sakes
while someone takes you, baby.
My baby.
My baby.
