Sorry for the mixup.... had super slow computer when posted this at first, and it posted twice, then I accidentally deleted the first post.....
I learned a few days ago that my 13 yr old son has been accessing Netflix using his friend's email and passcode-- his friend spent the night recently and showed him how to watch whatever movies he wants. Then I found out he is using the Wii in his room to view movies. I don't think he has used it to watch anything off limits, but using it at all has to be illegal since we are not paying for a subscription, and I had no idea he could get movies through the Wii like that. I know the Wii can be used to get online, but I've never seem him do anything other than play video games with it. I am strict with the parental controls on the TV, all computers have to be in the living room where use can be monitored AND there are parental controls on them too. It's extremely disturbing to me to learn kids can get Netflix codes from friends and watch anything they want through video game systems. I don't know how to completely control that situation without taking game systems out of the bedrooms, but if my son chooses to disobey and watch something off Netflix that's suitable right in front of me in our living room, I don't know I'd even realize it if I don't see him the second he turns it on. I do not want to be guilty of allowing him to steal services, and I sure don't want the kids having access to porn movies... but until I find a way to block it, if my son chooses to sneak and disobey and doesn't get caught, anything under the sun is right there for him to see. I will be contacting Netflix tomorrow to see how they address children giving out passcodes.
