How are people planning to/ did they handle planning for a day care when you have NO idea when the baby will arrive? I am confused about when I am supposed to make this decision/ start looking? How do day cares react? I guess part of this depends on the amount of a waitlist a day care has...I would only be using part time day care, but still. Just curious. (We will be adopting a newborn, and could have anywhere from 1 day- 6 months notice, though of course, I will be at home for 3 months...)
You could go ahead and check out some daycares that you're interested in...arrange some visits, get some idea of abatement waiting lists are like. We ended up not needing daycare-DH is off one day a week during the week and wanted his daddy time, grandma offered to keep him (WANTED to keep him...we had to talk her down from 5 days to 3!) and we have a nanny come to the house one day a week. We had time to find a nanny and amke the arrangements during my family leave (3mo ths).

Ha ha, hubs's mom wants to take care of the kid too (3 days- she wants 5- but I think that is too much), I want to stay home one day a week, so basically we'd be looking at one day. I guess nannies may also be a good option! Now how to go about finding one of those is probably a different story. I guess it's "okay" to start looking though. Silly me, feeling like I need permission!

First of all, I apologize for all of the misspellings! I responded the first time via my phone, and that darn autocorrect! I'm not sure how it turned "what their" into "abatement". . .we just mentioned to some of our friends who have children that we were looking for a nanny for a day a week. Not only did we find one who has worked with a family we trust, but she is also flexible and able to schedule around DH's day off. . .good luck to you!
we're lucky to work with a small daycare that is very intune with our whole scenario. we are officially on their 'list' but they know it could be 6 months before we need their services. they are all cool with letting us just stay on the list until needed...i'm lucky though, i have parents who will help a couple days each week and the option of bringing baby to work with me one day each week, so only need daycare 2 days!
