It's been a couple of weeks since my last post (summer is busy here too, but I still have to mother these boys, despite the busy).
So where am I in the caos (great that it is) of my mothering life... well I suddenly have a defiant five year old. Go figure. He's just full of attitude, but with tantrums attached to it. I thought I knew the w's of this, but it appears there is more to it. So I've done some research and found a suggestion for some solutions. I also ordered a few books that came across my path (love to read and learn - 45 years of age does not equal know it all). [I just had a ping ... I"m going to look into a blog! - maybe that will help keep my sanity].
Anyway, for what it's worth and if anyone is interested in this whole adoptive mothers support thing... I'd be happy to hear your thoughts.

The books are:
1. Children the Challenge - by Rudolf Dreikurs
2. How To Talk So Kids Will Listen & Listen So Kids Will Talk by A. Faber.
Next week hubby and I celebrate a big milestone in our marriage and we are all off for a wonderful vacation by the ocean. I am looking forward to being alone with my family where we know no one and can just be .... sometimes anonymous has its advantages.
I hope all of you are creating good out of your own caos and happy summer.

I've read the references you cited. The second one, how to talk so your child will listent is great.
Ultimately I found defiance explained well in the magical child and some of Rudolph Steiners work. Exploring limits and boundaries of the world they live in.
I did not struggle too much with my child's defiance probably because of the method I learned to work with it. I looked at her position from her point of view and we changed it together which led to all kinds of exciting adventures!:laundry:
