We have been contacted by CPS to take 100% physical and legal custody of a 26 month old family member. The mother wants us to have him as soon as possible. He was just taken a little over a week ago. I have a 4.5 yr old with ASD who was dx'd at 19 mos so I am very familiar with Early Start Services and the urgency in the time frame.
This child is in WA and I am in CA. They are saying to do long term custody it will take a few months. I feel like we don't have a few months because he will receive less intensive services after he turns 3. As soon as he is in CA I can contact the regional center to get the Early Start process started.
Is there any way to obtain temp custody while they do the paperwork for the long term? Mom has been using for 29 years, with several wake up calls, so I am confident this little guy will be with us for the long haul, I just need to get him here ASAP. He hasn't had any intervention therapy yet, but less than a week in foster care is eating some solid foods (from bottles and baby food) and is now making very minimal eye contact vs zero. Lots of hope for him :o)
