Our family has an adopted 15-year-old child in our home who who initially came as a foster child at the age of 13 and was recently adopted. He has significant behavior issues that have followed him from previous placements as well as his birth home. This behaviors truly interfere with our ability to bond and to develop attachment towards him as we constantly feel the need to remove ourselves emotionally in order to properly guide him without taking things personally. His relationships with the other children in the home is very shaky because of his behaviors directed at them. My husband and I knew in our heart that God placed this child here in our home and it is our responsibility to follow through on God's will and not give up. We seem crossed between thinking that we are supposed to have a parent-child bond and attachment versus just showing a lost child the right way to live and how our choices, decisions, and behaviors effect our lives and the lives of others around us. Please pray for guidance and faith that in our weakness allows for God to be our strength and that he will not give us more than we can handle. Please pray for peace and the ability to lessen the anamosity that has been developed between the other children in the home with this particular child. Thank you very much!
