I'm having a very hard time finding doctor that will take medi-cal. We have private insurance, but my daughter's medical costs have been quite high and I'd like to utilize the medi-cal after private is billed. Anyone know of any good doctors or clinics in So. Cal that take medi-cal? ..preferably in the south bay.
Also, I have taken my little one to the ER several times and I feel like it's crazy I can take her to a high end ER and have everything 100% covered, but when I take her to all her doctors appoints, I have to pay a fortune, because they don't take medi-cal. Do you guys run into that? Of course I won't take her to the ER unnecessarily...but just seems crazy!
Any suggestions appreciated!
Do you live in the vicinity of any teaching hospitals, medical centers that are attached to a unversity school of medicine? The teaching hospitals all accept Medi-Cal patients. They can be kind of a hassle in terms of sitting around the waiting room, but the care your daughter will receive is top-notch.

I do, but from what they told me, it sounded like you can only get her in for emergency room visits. Do many have just regular doctors appointments at these facilities?

They should all accept Medi-Cal in their outpatient clinics. The clinics can be a hassle in terms of sitting for hours in the waiting room and having to see different doctors, but in my experience, the actual care is top-notch medicine.
also my mom works at a county hospital and they have outpatient clinics....they have certain days they are open though.....e.g. Tues/Thurs or Mon/Wed/Fri
So you do have to be on top of things in order to get an appt. as they aren't open every day.
i second raven....we used a teaching hospital at first and it was not horrible...we actually had many positive experiences and i often liked that there were 2 doctors since those in training had to have someone with them, and we used kaiser second....which was nice. :) they were mostly great about using medi-cal as our second. every once in a while we had to remind them how to do it...but overall i miss it!
