Sua, I believe I am correct but not positive - but believe the state you were born in laws dictate whether or not you can obtain your original birth certificate. Rhode Island just passed changes to the sealed records law that allows adult adoptees 25 or older to obtain a non-certified copy of their original birth certificate. That comes into effect July 2012. Between now and July 2012 birth parents can sign a contact preference form - hence the delay for the adoptees. You should also sign up in MA and RI state passive registries - not sure if both have them. You can check here under the tab Library - Laws - Laws by Full Text - State - Access to Adoption records. I would also request non-id but cannot tell you which state would have it - you would have to ask. Post your search on the registry on this site (see tab reunite) as well as ISRR.net. Kind regards,Dickons

Much appreciated Dickons. I'm in the process now of completing the registry for RI and just spoke with the individuals at the RI family court. I just have to mail all the documents in seeing as how I do not reside in the state of RI. Again, thank you very much for your input and assistance. Take care.
