Hey,
So, I'm adopted. Or was adopted. Am an adoptee. (I could go on.)
I was born in the US to Korean parents. I was promptly adopted by Korean parents. I found out only in the past few years.
I'm in Korea at the moment, working. The coincidences. Of sorts. I've considered the idea, flirted with it, but never got a number, only a John Smith sort of name. Like when you're at a party and you connect with her eyes, and you two somehow bump into each other, brush shoulders, make a witty remark, laugh, fetch a name, but never actually converse, never actually bridge the space between hers and yours. Well, the party's winding down and I've been thinking that I may just have had enough of those parties where you go around swaggering, sloshing beer, but never encroaching, never closing, just drifting.
I'm not even sure that I care is the thing, the kicker. Just that I'm here with slightly more than a handful of months to go, and that I may look upon this years down the road and slap myself on the forehead. Or worse, that nothing occurs because I don't.
So I've a set of names on an o-ri-gi-nal birth cert (or a copy at least) to go on- US made- but nothing else. The adoption was apparently a custom job, "brokered" by an indep. intermediary who passed away many years ago. I remember my mother, the adopting one, taking me to see her for a final visit, ignorant of significance of the visitation and her, her slumped down, smiling as she sees me one final time. I going through the motions. Unknowing.
My parents supposedly have no real clues, save one went to NY and one went back to Korea and her family. The info is decades old. Plus, atop of their own neuroses, they now have issues of potential abandonment to deal with, so that too's a dead end.
The question in short-
Where do I go from here should I choose to head toward the bio parents' (separate) place?
How would one go about searching for two sets of biological parents without going through the agencies, barely functional with the local language, armed with only names, names that more than a dozen probably share in cities with millions of residents?
Hi there,
If it were me, I would be brutal in my search.
Go through agencies, and all social media (ie. facebook, myspace, etc).
Work out their approximate age and any other info you may have, and just spam messages out there... Life is too **** short.
Anyway, that's what I would do. I found one of my siblings that way.
Good luck!
