Hello,
Thank you for anyone taking the time to read this . Yesterday, we received an email from our agency letting us know that the SNAP council (we are in Indiana) contacted them in regard to two young boys with Fragile X. I had never heard of it before but have a lot of experience with Autistic children. I was shocked when I found out all of the similarities and that I had never heard of it.
Since receiving the email I have done nothing but non stop reading on FX. I was wondering if anyone here had any experience with it? Also, if anyone has advice on the adoption process with a child who has FX.
This is our first call and we are so excited but very overwhelmed. Any words of wisdom would be really great:arrow:
Fragile X is considered an autism spectrum disorder in many circles and just like any ASD the ability of the children can vary widely. We fostered a little girl with this disorder and she had a lot of challenges, but nothing earth shattering. I don't think the process for adopting them will be any different than any other children.

Fragile X is very rare in girls, though it does happen - it is mainly boys. Not all have autistic type behaviours, and the main difficulty they tend to have is with attention - so many present as having a moderate learning disability with ADHD elements.
