I am hoping someone has some insight for me. I am familiar with adoption, hubby and I have adopted previously. The only difference now is that we are stationed in GTMO, with our kids. We will be here a total of 3 years. We are both in the Army and both US citizens. GTMO is a US Territory(no off base privelages for anyone here), but technically are considered overseas. We have had an adoption homestudy here in GTMO with all background checks, etc and have been approved to adopt domestically.
We can easily get on and off island, take the leave we need to, and fly to wherever necessary, just like we did when our son was born and we had to travel from Texas to California to pick him up. However, we have run into a few road blocks. We can't find an agency to work with us due to being overseas.
Has anyone adopted domestically in the US while being stationed overseas???? Thank you!
Jamie
You may find that you do better adopting internationally. I have heard that domestic agencies are not always keen on working with military families living overseas.
