This is a double post. Original post as an update in main forum but wanted to put it here too since it happened in Indiana. I sometimes think Indiana is getting ready to do away with the whole DCS program when things like this happen.
Kids were removed because 1 month old born addicted and on feeding tube, 15 mth old has Williams Syndrome and is being medically neglected has lost weight in last 3 mths, 5 year old has behavioral issues from being abused in home by younger sibs biodad. Mom admitted to continual drug abuse during pregnancy and has not had a stable home environment. They have been investigated 10 times before removal. I know this is way too much info to list but things are really scary here WHO is protecting the kids.
Crazy day as a fostermom. STBAS CW came for visit told me she thought I NEEDED to go to court for ER placed FS CHIN hearing. Since my mom was going to watch my STBAS so I could take ER FS to doctor, I called her to ride with me since there was a time crunch.
Went to court basically 1 hr after CW left with both boys in the car and mom babysitting in the car. Spoke to intake and ongoing CW for ER FS case had tentative plan to move all 3 children into our home. Then went into court with bio family. Testified on behalf of ER FS, spoke to biofamily. Judge ordered children RETURNED to biomom but her caseplan is EXTREMELY strict with a saftely plan put into place.(PTL) She is required to notify DCS of all doctor appts for both ER FS and 1 month old baby (born addicted on feeding tube). If she fails to show up for any doctor appts or drug test kids are automatically removed or if she fails drug test. Felt okay leaving court since there was a lot of family present for support but most had history with DCS. I still ended up taking him to doctor appt and mom was to meet me there and pick him up ... I offered to do this .... crazy I know.
Drove 45 min to doctor appt, the doctor was hoping they would stay in fostercare since ER FS had really declined over the last 3 months but doctor hadn't returned DCS phone calls or sent any medical paperwork per request. I was able to give him additional info that I observed from caring for him which he said it was the most imput he has gotten on him since he has seen him over last 15 mths. He has major vision and hearing issues doctor has been trying to get him into a specialist since Nov but mom always no shows appts. I did get a list of all his doctors names and numbers and what he was going to order as continual care since ER FS had actually lost weight over last 3 months and I gave him the ongoing CW info and I plan to send a final email to ongoing CW.
Mom showed at doctors office and was pleasant toward me. I talked to her about how important it was to get him the proper care and how he has a lot of potential even with his Special Needs. Told her if she could get some help with his vision and hearing he should begin to develop more. Talked to her about how much First Steps programs can help. I tried to be empathetic hoping that this is the wake up call she needs. I also wanted her to feel like fosterparents and DCS are there to help. Then I left the little guy in her care.
Wow what a day and since he doesn't spend the night, I won't even get paid for the day ... fosterparents can't be in it for the money. Hoping for the best for this little guy but truly know that I did all I could for him.
