To people who have just received referrals, how long have you waited? We have been waiting exactly 60 months in the NSN program. We are thinking about switching to the SN program. Do any of you have special needs kids? We were thinking minor-moderate special needs. Ex: birthmarks, missing fingers/toes, hep B, developmental delays, blind in one eye, etc. Thanks!
Oops, let me clarify what info I'm looking for here. Does anyone have children with the special needs I listed above? If so, where they worse than you though? Was the agency accurate on giving you info on the severity of your child's special needs? Does the "special need" have a great impact on your child's life/and or daily function? Thanks!

My son is missing five of his toes (2 on one foot and three on the other). His feet are rocker bottomed and he walks on the inside of the edge of his foot. He also had severe hip dyplasia and he is missing bother fibulas. Because of this he is very short-- 6-8 inches shorter than average.
He has had hip surgery three times in the past year. Otherwise these issues do not really effect his life at all. He walks, runs, climbs, and rides a bike. He does get tired more often than his siblings since his legs are so short. This may not be the same for all children with similar conditions. We are routinely asked if he can walk by medical residents who do not know him when we are at the doctor. He will most likely have to have a hip replacement in the future. Also SOP for a child with only two toes is amputation of the foot. I guess feet with that little bone structure do not work well enough usually. (At the present the doctor advises against the standard treatment, but amupation of one of DS's feet is a possibility in the future.)
there are many many children with minor special needs available for adoption.
the most recent LIDs to get referrals were July 2006.

Thank you so much! karla-k, I found chinaadopttalk most helpful! And thank you, cecalo for telling me about you son. Very reassuring!
Thanks!
