Hi,
My husband and I are looking into adoption from Colombia, however, we are getting a lot of different wait times!
I understand since it is one of the only South American countries left open, it will probably be a long wait - but I wanted to see what people would think about the different wait times. I understand the ICBF vs the private casas, so...
Should I go with a newer program that is claiming to have a shorter wait time?
Should I go with an older program and ICBF and wait the 3-4 years since some agencies are saying casas wait are just as long?
Anyone adopted RECENTLY after all the South American countries closed and had a shorter wait time? (It seems like most waiting for Guat children ended up in Colo, right?)
The wait times are dependent on the age of the child/children you are adopting. We are in the process of adopting a sibling group from Colombia and recently got a verbal referral!
Depending on what direction you want to go ICBF or a casa, that will also help you narrow down your agency as some work more with ICBF and some with the casas.

Hi. We adopted both of our kids as infants from a casa called CRAN in Bogota' and had pretty short wait times for both of them. Our daughter's referral took 7 months in 2008 and our son's took 3 months in 2010 (I am counting wait time from when dossier was accepted at the casa). Our agency was even shocked at how quickly our son's referral came. They had told us to expect a 12-18 month wait, so it definitely was not the norm. I think if you adopted from a casa in Bogota' your wait time would be shorter than ICBF. The casas that are in Cali and Medellin may have longer wait times.
We are approved for an infant and waiting for a referral from the ICBF. We have currently been waiting 3 years 9 months. According to the ICBF list, most families are currently waiting for their dossier to be sent to a region 3 years 11 months.
From what I understand, you can not choose ICBF or a casa privada?
Good luck!

Hi,
New to forum have a ? for you..Did you request only an infant? Is this the norm wait times over 3 years???
KP
Hi KP,
We did request an infant. Our wait is so long because we requested an infant, we are not Colombian and are using the ICBF. (When we started we were told the wait would be 12-18 months!! ).
The current wait for an infant from the ICBF is over 3 years 11 months.
