... at the age of 8 or 9. Two Decembers ago, my adoption records and amended BC were stolen when our house was robbed while away at a wedding.
My job, currently undergoing an ownership change, is onto me about my social security card and my driver's license do not have the exact same name.
i now need to find a way to get at least one of these documents. Could someone please point me in the right direction that isn't in the realm of the obvious?
Not sure what you mean "not in the realm of the obvious"? The only way to get a certified copy of your amended birth certificate is to submit a request and a small fee to the county where you were born. Very easy, no drama. If you were born in Cook County the link to the form to mail in is :

You don't need the adoption papers for anything. What you DO need is to take your amended BC and your other ID (drivers license) and get your social security card changed immediately, as soon as you can. Doesn't sound like your "fault" that wasn't done since you were a minor, but now as an adult, obviously you need to take care of it.
