On your OBC, how was your name listed? My OBC came yesterday and it has the name I was given by my adoptive parents but it had my BM's last name. I'm trying to figure out how this happened and if this is the world's biggest coincidence. I was adopted at birth and there was no more contact. Would my adoptive parents have access to the info that my BM listed on the BC? Or did they both give me the same name without knowing it? I'm so confused!
Well, I haven't received my OBC yet but I do know I had a different name because it was on an immunization record my foster parents handed over when I was adopted at 8 months. It was scratched out but I could tell first name was much longer than the name my adoptive parents gave me. Since you were adopted at birth, it's possible, you weren't given a first name and maybe when original birth record was filed, they just used the name your adoptive parents gave you. This is a total guess but I would certainly ask your adoptive parents what they may have known.

My name on the OBC I just received just had a last name, which was my birth mom's maiden name.
Just a quick update....she did not show at grandparent's day, so I did not get a glimpse of her. I ended up sending her a message via FB. I got a response, and she asked me to call. So elated, she sounds so sweet! We talked for 2 hrs and are meeting face - to - face this week!!!! We are still both amazed at all the coincidences.....we live less than 5 min from each other (and I live in the country, not city!) CRAZY! Come to find out she wasn't even sure that she had a girl or a boy....never got to see me, so she had no idea we lived in the same town.

Wow, that IS crazy!! That is such a great update, I'm really happy for you! I still haven't made contact. I'm waiting to talk to my mom about it first. I don't think she even knows that I wanted to do this. Do your parents know? How do they feel about it?
So, back to the name thing really quick...the name on the OBC would have to be what my biomom listed, right? My parents wouldn't have access to that info, right? I guess I just can't believe that they both named me the exact same thing.
Good luck with your meeting!!!
That is weird that the name is the same!!!!! I only had a last name on mine....but that is because the doctor filled mine out. My birthmother never saw the certificate and was shocked to know it had her address from the time of my birth listed on it! She has no paperwork from my adoption/birth.
Yes, I kept told my parents the day before I got the certificate in the mail that I had done this. They had given me the information about the new law the year before. I called them when my birthmother asked me to call her................which my birthmother asked me if they knew and when I told her that I called them first.....she was so ecstatic!!! That pleased her very much!
I had to laugh because this morning my daughter sent me a text letting me know she saw my birthmom.....how unfair is that!!!! My half-brother's child attends the same school and rides the same bus as my children.....Grandma put the child on the bus today and my daughter saw her. "Mom....she looks just like you!" Also, another weird coincidence.....my birthmother takes care of a dementia patient which lives on the same road as me!!!! She drives by my house 2 times a day.....remember....I live in the country, not town. How hilarious is that!!! She did say that my world is going to get a bit smaller too....that I am related to some of my friends on my facebook page. OH BOY! When I don't think it can get any weirder........it does!

WOW!! That all sounds so crazy! And being friends with your relatives, that is, just, wow! Have fun with your new discoveries :)
I talked to my amom today and she shocked but not surprised, if that makes sense. And she did confirm that she did not know anything about the name that my bmom put on my birth cert. She found out later from the social worker. My mom said even the social worker cried over the coincidence, lol.

My name on my OBC is just a last name. I do know that I lived in foster care for a week before being adopted. I have no idea whether I had a name for that week or not.
My birth mother does not live in my state, and I may have found her on Facebook. I found a bunch of her relatives, but she isn't Facebook friends with any of them despite living in the same very small community. That seems odd. I haven't decided what to do about contact yet.
