A young girl looks into the mirror
and wonders who she is.
She has a feeling of longing,
a feeling of not belonging.
The reflection is incomplete.
Like a puzzle missing a piece,
she is missing a piece of her life.
She has a feeling of longing,
feelings of not belonging,
of questions left unanswered.
But she doesnt know why.
She asks herself: ғWho am I?
Years pass and now a young woman
looks into that same mirror.
The puzzle of her life is missing pieces.
She feels lonely.
She still feels that she doesnԒt belong
but doesnt know why she should have these feelings.
She grew up in a wonderful family.
She had a wonderful life.
She couldnҒt ask for more.
But she does and doesnt know why.
As the child grows, things happen,
words are said,
She looks different from everyone else.
Questions build up
to which there are no answers.
There has to be a reason
Something is being kept from her.
People tell her to leave it be
To be thankful for what she has.
They donҒt know the pain and anguish
of having something missing,
of being different and not belonging.
A secret was kept from her all her life.
a secret which is about to be revealed.
a secret which will explain her feelings,
a secret which was kept out of love and fear.
Two womens lives were to be changed forever.
One young woman feels sadness and shame for
a mistake she once made.
The other woman has a deep need for a child to love.
Between these women a child was passed
and a secret was created.
A secret which will torment all three for the rest of their lives.
Now the child knows the secret.
She looks into the mirror
and still wonders who is looking back at her?
Is she missed?
Is she loved?
Is she being looked for?
Why was she given away?
Years later an older woman looks into the same mirror.
Has knowing the secret made things change?
She still has the longing.
The loneliness is still there.
The feeling of not belonging is now explained but is not gone.
Why did the secret have to exist?
Why was she not told the truth from the start?
A woman who feared she wouldnҒt be loved as a mother
kept this secret till death made it impossible
to keep it any longer.
Who felt the most torment, the woman or the child?
Didnt the child have the right to know?
Would it have made a difference?
DoesnҒt she have the right to know now?
Who was that woman so long ago
who made a mistake?
What would life had been like for that child
if she had been kept?
Secrets are kept for reasons.
But secrets seldom remain secrets for long.
Knowing the truth will not change the love this
woman feels for the mother who raised her.
Nothing can take away the love she has for her family.
But nothing can take away this feeling of not belonging
except for the rest of the secret to be told to her.
Why? Thats all she wants to know. Why?
A simple question to be sure.
A difficult answer to be told and to be heard.
Time is passing and the woman gets older.
The image in the mirror is fading.
But the feelings are as strong as ever.
One day the truth will be told.
One day the child and the woman who gave her birth
will be face to face.
One day all the childҒs questions will be answered
but the woman fears it will not be in this world but
in the next where all who loved her will be
there to greet her,
a place where no secrets are kept and all secrets are revealed.
A young girl looks into the mirror
and wonders who she is.
She has a feeling of longing,
a feeling of not belonging.
