My siblings and I are searching for our sister who was born at Flow Memorial Hospital in Denton, TX. She was born in October of 1977 and was placed with her adoptive parents by Rest Cottage (Pilot Point, TX). Any advice and guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
SearchforHope,
Are you sure your sister was born in 1977? Rest Cottage closed in 1975.
All Rest Cottage files were sealed and deposited with the state of Texas, which is good, but also means they are probably just archived - but there will be adoption files from the court there as well.
Link to learn about Rest Cottage if you haven't found it already.

There is a mutual consent registry with the state of Texas. If your sister has signed up then your search is relatively easy. If she hasn't, it doesn't mean she never will because many don't until their 40's / 50's.

Mutual Access to Identifying Information
Citation: Fam. Code ǧ 162.407; 162.413; 162.414; 162.416
The persons listed above may register with a mutual consent voluntary adoption registry. A registration remains in effect until the 99th anniversary of the date the registration is accepted unless a shorter period is specified by the applicant or the registration is withdrawn. A registrant may withdraw his or her registration in writing at any time.
The applicant must participate in counseling for not less than 1 hour with a social worker or mental health professional with expertise in postadoption counseling before the release of confidential information.
The administrator shall process each registration in an attempt to match the adoptee, the birth parents, and the birth siblings. The administrator shall determine that there is a match if the adult adoptee and the birth mother, father, or sibling has registered.
When a match has been made, the administrator shall mail a written notice to each registrant:

Informing the registrant that a match has been made

Reminding the registrant that he or she may withdraw the registration before disclosures are made, if desired

Notifying the registrant that before any identifying disclosures are made, he or she must sign a written consent and participate in counseling
Identifying information about a registrant shall be released without the registrant's having consented to disclosure after the match if the registrant is dead, his or her registration was valid at the time of death, and he or she had in writing specifically authorized the postdeath disclosure. Identifying information about a deceased birth parent may not be released until each surviving child is an adult or until each child's surviving parent or guardian consents in writing to the disclosure.

You should also post your search and search the following registry. You will need to confirm the year though or figure out whether the year is wrong or the Rest Cottage part is wrong. You could probably do postings for a couple of years and then say in the note section that the year may be off by X.

You can also submit your info to ISRR.net which will be processed against a database of registratants now and in the future.
Just make sure that you keep your address / email address updated wherever you post your search - far too many reunions fail because one side did not update.
Kind regards,
Dickons

Thank you for the information Dickons. I mistyped in my original post, my sister was born in 1970. I will try to edit my earlier post with the correct date.

My sister was born in 1970, not 1977. I can't figure out how to edit my original post.
\:wings: Hello, I was born at Rest Cottage and there is a special lady who lives in North Richland Hills that helped me find my birthmother 9 years ago. She will help you, she has taken a special interest in all children born there. Please let me know and I will give you the information.
