My paternal grandmother was born in Coventry and raised in Grismbury, Banbury area before coming to Canada with her Mum and sister.
I am here looking for my grandmother's younger half sister who was adopted by a Stanton family who lived on West Street in Grimsbury, Banbury. The sister's name at birth was Doreen E. Kench (born sometime in 1929), but in actuality her biological father's name was Percy John Lickorish (married with 6 other children); the mother (Edith Maud Grantham Kench) was widow and had given the baby her late husband's surname on the birth registry. Doreen was born from an affair and apparently Mr. Lickorish didn't take too well to the news and as a baby, Doreen was adopted by the Stanton family. Doreen has two sisters, born in 1921 and 1926 (my grandmother) who live in Canada and are eagerly awaiting news about her. Any information would be appreciated.

Your grandmother can legally search for her sister. It is worth contacting Coventry social services by letter which you can do on her behalf as you are a relative as well. Address the letter to:

The letter will be passed on and they will either help or let you know who to contact. Don't be fobbed of by being told you can't search as the natural family / relatives can search for an adopted person.
