Hello,
My wife had...maybe still has a brother and sister that were twins. The were born in 1988 in Timisoara, later transfered to an orphanage in Craiova. We just became aware that they existed in the last 2 years.
Some of her siblings tried to get info about them. The authorities from Craiova says that they both died. They provided us with the dates that they died, but did not provide any death cerificates.
I would like to go and investigate some more, but time does not allow us at this time. We are starting to think that they might have been put up for adoption. I know that there was a practice of doctoring documents around that time.
My questions:
What are the chances of both of them dying?
Am I right to question the information that was given to us by the authorities, given Romania's adoption history?
If anyone could help with ideas or with connections of people or resources that might be helpful in our serarch, please let us know. Thank you.
Depending on what year(s) the orphanage says they both died it is possible that they are both deceased. If so I am so very sorry.
My sister & BIL were in the middle of an international adoption of an infant when word came that he had died. It seems that an illness (never told exactly what it was) went through the orphanage and killed 6 babies in less than a week.
Sometimes, not always, some children, especially younger ones, in orphanages have health issues that prevent them from being able to fight off common illnesses.
I wish you luck in your search for information. Also, welcome to the forums. You will find a wealth of information here.

They said that one of the twins died in 1989 and the other in 1990. During those years, I believe, many adoptions were taking place. Twice, we inquired about the death cerificates. None were provided.
