Today was the background meeting for Little M. It went so good! I think the ringer question that they asked us was why did we pick Little M. I explained that really it was very ironic. That one of the reasons we had originally decided to adopt rather than have more biological children was because we didn't want to risk the same disorder again. But that when I looked through the photo listings I always liked to look for children who's description of the family they wanted/needed matched ours family. I didn't just want a child that just fit us well, I wanted a child who we would benefit. I explained that when I saw Little M the thing that I thought was that here was a child to whom we are uniquely qualified to benefit. Literally all of the room smiled. YES!
There is supposed to be a sort of vote taken by them after we leave the meeting but one of them had to take a phone call and as she was leaving said, "If I don't make it back, my vote is yes". Two more, including Little M's GAL shot their hands right into the air to join her in the yes vote before the meeting admin could stop them and tell them to wait till it was time to vote. Yeah, I know, I can't stop smiling :)
The GAL btw is AMAZING! He asked if he could please walk us out and have a word alone with us. He made sure we knew what his role in this was and asked us to call him immediately if DSS gave us any problems. He has, apparently, been with Little M since he was in the hospital and has been massively instrumental in making sure he was in a single awesome foster home for this entire 4 years. We told him that our one concern, so far, is that they were telling us that we would probably have to disrupt Muscle Man or we couldn't take Little M. He was shocked and said he personally knew the administrative supervisor and the judge and that he would not let that happen. Now, the thing with Muscle Man isn't going well so it may end anyway, but at least it won't be because of some amazingly stupid administrative red tape! I seriously want to hug this guy. He is that amazing.
We get to give our officially "YES!" Monday and first visit should be next weekend. Visits for July, transitioning to be in our home full time by start of school.
